“Wow. That was unexpected, although I don’t know what I did expect. Beautifully composed and executed. Many disparate elements seamlessly combining to make a new powerful whole. It took a minute to process it. How did you get from wherever to that without there being an internet trail?” - John Howard, Artist/Illustrator monkeyink.com

Unit of power is an angular vision that is heavy, funky, soulful and electronically enhanced. The band is the vision of Rob Robinson (vocals, lyrics) and Ken Nosé (bass guitar.)

Their unique songwriting and production style has been honed through years of genre-defying projects. Rob and Ken’s earlier music career included fiery funk-rock live shows opening for musicians like Tom Morello, Freekbass, Ginger Baker, The Goo Goo Dolls, and Dan Reed Network. Separately Rob has played in Skin and Agent 99 in New York and Ohio, and Ken has played bass with various bands in LA both on stage and in the studio.

Unit of Power’s self-produced 2021 “Electric Transmission EP” showcases the band at their most eclectic. Unit of Power’s self-produced 2021 “Electric Transmission EP” showcases the band at their most eclectic.

The first single “Chocolate” is a modern funk classic with an edge. Featuring the funk guitar work of Lonnie Marshall (Weapon of Choice), the fiery guitar of Chris Lawson (Eldon, Silent Scream), live horns, and latin percussion, it sounds instantly familiar like an old school jam you’ve always known but haven’t heard again until now.

“Ocean” is the most psychedelic and electronically enhanced track. Pulsing, synthetic and soulful, the track takes cinematic twists and turns through synthetic neon and crushing guitar landscapes on the way to a blissful, huge chorus.

Rob jokingly describes “Love Thang” as what would happen if “Prince, Helmet and Sly Stone had a baby.” The song blurs the lines between rock and funk anthems with falsetto vocals, rubber band bass, and the imaginative heavy guitar work of Mike Fern (Step Kings, Brothers of Alien Rock.)
